Controls Engineer / PLC Programmer

We are looking a Controls Engineer / PLC Programmer to join our growing team. This position is a key role in our growing company that enjoys job autonomy and hybrid-remote work capabilities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • PLC and HMI program development and supervision, using Rockwell software.
  • Travel to customer location for onsite start-up and commissioning.
  • Participate in in-house R&D, testing, development, and customer FAT presentations as required.
  • Development of Machinery Pre-Engineering Documentation (i.e. Cycle Time List, Sequence Lists, Safety Stop Time Analysis, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery, determine the root cause of the failure and find appropriate solutions to prevent failure in the future.
  • Communicate with customers and onsite Project Managers to ensure clarity of goals, expectations, and daily tasks.
  • Ability and personality to take control onsite and navigate role as System Integrator to ensure all vendor technicians are clear on machine performance needed to meet customer needs.
  • Introduce programming improvements in controls and logic systems that are consistent with customer changes or manufacturing needs.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience controlling/integrating packaging lines or equivalent.
  • Experience programming Process Automation Systems (i.e. mass material handling, fluid transfer, etc.) and Sequential Machines/Equipment.
  • Experience with robots, vision, and safety system integration would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of automated equipment, electrical control systems, DeviceNet, ControlNet and Ethernet communication networks, variable frequency drives, servos, distributed I/O systems, and digital and analog circuits.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Software (i.e. Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, etc.). Proficiency with other PLC systems would be an asset.
  • Strong communication skills to develop supporting documentation.
  • Experience with Solidworks Electrical or Autocad Electrical would be an asset.
  • Travel throughout North America (25-50%).
