We are looking for a Conveyor and Equipment Designer to join our growing team. This position is a key role in our growing company that enjoys job autonomy and hybrid-remote work capabilities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Mechanical design of conveyor and packaging equipment ensuring proper fit and functionality of all components.
  • Generation of detailed fabrication/assembly drawings and BOM lists for the Descon assembly department.
  • Work with Descon’s department manager and project leads to ensure the timely design, completion, and accuracy of packaging solutions for all of Descon’s clients
  • Provide technical assistance to Descon’s assembly team on all projects.
  • Work with procurement to ensure the timely and accurate acquisition of components needed for the assembly of Descon’s projects.
  • Liaise with various operations departments to ensure a speedy and accurate solution is provided to Descon’s clients by the deliverable date.
  • Work in cooperation with Descon’s standards department to help standardize drawings for future projects to make design detailing more efficient and accurate.
 

Requirements:

  • Excellent working knowledge of Solidworks.

  • Packaging industry experience would be an asset.
  • Database experience and knowledge of Driveworks would be an asset.

We are looking for a Machinist to join our growing team in our Newmarket, Ontario manufacturing facility.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Competently read and interpret mechanical part drawings.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Machine parts to specifications using a manual lathe, milling machine, saws, grinder, etc.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances; use of micrometers and vernier calipers
  • General cleanliness and preventative maintenance on all machine shop equipment.
  • Work safely and bring safety issues to the attention of the shop supervisor.
  • Maintain an organized process for keeping track of pending and completed work orders.
 

Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines, saws, etc.
  • Hands-on working experience with stainless steel material.
  • Supply your own basic hand tools (wrench sets, screwdrivers, hammer, punches, square, etc.)

We are looking a Skilled Assembly / Machine Builder to join our growing team in our Newmarket, Ontario location.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Competently read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout specifications, and Bills of Materials for assembly.
  • Gather parts as needed from the Bill of Materials and correct fasteners for the conveyor section.
  • Accurately assemble conveyors and packaging equipment as per supplied assembly drawings.
  • Cut conveyor wear strips and rail material to correct lengths as needed for assembly using a band saw.
  • Accurately Roll/Bend conveyor rail materials to the supplied drawings using rolling equipment.
  • Make modifications to assemblies as needed, using a drill, grinder, and cut-off wheel.
  • Ensure proper protective equipment is always worn and proper tools used based on the task.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work area. Follow safety rules and create a safe culture.
  • Perform all duties following all company policies, procedures, and standards for quality.
  • Record job numbers and time activities through computer stations.
 

Requirements:

  • Have a minimum 2 years of experience in the assembly of conveyors and/or machines
  • Supply your own basic hand tools (wrench sets, screwdrivers, hammer, punches, square, etc.)
  • Be a self-driven and ambitious personality with a strong attention to detail.
  • Be able to regularly lift and move up to 50lbs, frequently lift and move up to 25lbs.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, good communication skills, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Be dedicated and available to put in extra effort when project schedules and customer needs require it, such as overtime on short notice
  • Communicate part needs or possibly problems with a conveyor assembly with the Shop Supervisor to ensure delays are avoided.
  • Coordinate, interact, and work collaboratively with other team members, vendors, and the client at the site.
  • Be able to work independently and cooperatively with others with some supervision and guidance.
  • Occasional machining and welding would be an asset.

We are looking a Controls Engineer / PLC Programmer to join our growing team. This position is a key role in our growing company that enjoys job autonomy and hybrid-remote work capabilities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • PLC and HMI program development and supervision, using Rockwell software.
  • Travel to customer location for onsite start-up and commissioning.
  • Participate in in-house R&D, testing, development, and customer FAT presentations as required.
  • Development of Machinery Pre-Engineering Documentation (i.e. Cycle Time List, Sequence Lists, Safety Stop Time Analysis, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery, determine the root cause of the failure and find appropriate solutions to prevent failure in the future.
  • Communicate with customers and onsite Project Managers to ensure clarity of goals, expectations, and daily tasks.
  • Ability and personality to take control onsite and navigate role as System Integrator to ensure all vendor technicians are clear on machine performance needed to meet customer needs.
  • Introduce programming improvements in controls and logic systems that are consistent with customer changes or manufacturing needs.
 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience controlling/integrating packaging lines or equivalent.
  • Experience programming Process Automation Systems (i.e. mass material handling, fluid transfer, etc.) and Sequential Machines/Equipment.
  • Experience with robots, vision, and safety system integration would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of automated equipment, electrical control systems, DeviceNet, ControlNet and Ethernet communication networks, variable frequency drives, servos, distributed I/O systems, and digital and analog circuits.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Software (i.e. Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, etc.). Proficiency with other PLC systems would be an asset.
  • Strong communication skills to develop supporting documentation.
  • Experience with Solidworks Electrical or Autocad Electrical would be an asset.
  • Travel throughout North America (25-50%).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Review contract documentation, engineering design (drawings and calculations), technical documents, and schedules.
  • Familiar with industrial electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Knowledge of technical writing (client reports, equipment specifications, construction specifications).
  • Capable of reviewing and providing comments on electrical detailed design drawings such as schematics (protection & control, DC elementary, etc.).
  • Knowledge of auxiliary systems layouts (equipment, cabling, cable tray, grounding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of single and three-line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of interconnection wiring diagrams (equipment and panel wiring).
  • Knowledge of communication block diagrams.
  • Experience with electrical design utilizing Solidworks Electrical and AutoCAD tools.
  • Prepare calculations for sizing/selection of commonly used power and control systems (electrical load calculations, cabling, etc.).
  • Resolve design issues at the site and support site commissioning work if required.

  • Have basic knowledge of construction methods and installation details related to electrical equipment and with codes and standards: CuL, OESC, CSA, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, IEEE Standards.

Requirements:

Due to sustained growth, we are looking for a Project Engineer (AutoCAD) to join our growing team. This position is a key role in our growing company that enjoys job autonomy and remote work capabilities. Reporting to and under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer will:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for creating detailed layout design drawings for automated packaging lines.
  • Develop client relationships and clearly articulate our technical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with all engineering departments to find solutions to complex issues as they arise.
  • Be able to organize and document project critical information and support documentation (i.e. cross-sections, products, speeds, etc.).
  • Actively participate in presentations on design/scope changes with clients.
  • Review customer bid packages and specifications to ensure supply requirements.
  • When applicable, on-site verification of dimensions and details may be required.
  • Travel to customer facilities, take detailed measurements and generate layouts in AutoCAD.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in the beverage or food packaging industry in one or more of the following areas: Project Management, Estimating, Equipment Sourcing, Sales, and Design.
  • Related industry or plant layout design experience using AutoCAD (or equivalent CAD software).

We are looking for a Conveyor and Equipment Onsite Technician to join our growing team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Travel to customer facilities primarily throughout Canada and the United States for extended durations, usually weeks at a time.
  • Competently read and interpret mechanical drawings and layout specifications.
  • Accurately install conveyors and packaging equipment as per supplied drawings, and layout specifications.
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a successful start-up and completion of Descon’s projects.
  • Always represents Descon in a positive light and maintains/builds on existing relationships with Descon’s clients helping drive potential for repeat business.
  • Direct Descon trades and contractors to ensure installation is done properly and on time.
  • Make modifications to assemblies as needed to ensure the product is functioning properly as intended. Ability to troubleshoot and think critically when problems with installation arise.
  • Ensure proper protective equipment is always worn and proper tools are used based on the task. Maintain a safe and tidy work area. Follow safety rules and create a safe culture.
  • Perform all duties following all company policies, procedures, and standards for quality.

Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the assembly/installation of conveyors and equipment in the food and beverage industry. Strong understanding of conveyors and packaging equipment used in the Food and Beverage industry
  • The ability to travel for extended periods on short notice is mandatory.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Previous experience managing clients, and having daily interactions with clients is mandatory.
  • Be a self-driven and ambitious personality with a strong attention to detail.
